Learning to laugh at yourself is a healthy way to diffuse the tension, maintain your dignity and keep your self-esteem intact. I thought you might enjoy this list of things you will not want to do if you value your marriage.

1. While he is watching the football game of the year, sit beside him and start discussing your ideas on how you want to redecorate the house.

2. When you need a hug, cry and act dejected until he figures out what you want.

3. If you do not like the way he handles the finances, buy him a book on money management for his birthday.

4. Remind him often about how fortunate he is to be married to you. Tell him stories you read about how other women mistreat their husbands.

5. When he casually mentions that another woman gave him a compliment, say “Did she have her glasses on?”

6. Look at his paycheck and say “Is that all you make?”

7. When he has finished a project and he is showing it to other people, let everyone know that the reason, it turned out as well as it did is because you were praying for him.

8. Never compliment his masculinity. It wouldn’t be true and besides his ego is too big already.

9. Never act all that interested in sex. Let him know that you are really too spiritual to do that kind of stuff.

10.When your husband goes to church with you, get up and testify how he does not treat you nearly as bad as he used to.

11. Impress him with your self-sufficiency. Show him that you can do almost everything he can.

12. If he talks to you about his problems, make sure to give him your opinion on the best way to handle it.

13.When he takes you to his favorite restaurant, after you order tell him you really don’t like this place.

14. Let him lead your family but if you don’t like the way he does it, make sure to let him know and offer suggestions about how he could do it better.

15. When he makes you angry, don’t say anything. If he asks you what’s wrong, look at him, smile and say “Everything’s fine, why do you ask?”

I hope you find some humor and insight in this list of things not to do in your marriage. Most of us were not given a step by step manual of how to live with our husband so we learn by trying new things, making mistakes and laughing at ourselves as we progress to a better marriage.
