Here lately I have been studying (and have gotten quite excited about) Isaiah 54:14.

In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee.

Here are my thoughts on this verse.

Being established in righteousness means I know who I am in Christ. I know my rights and privileges. I am in right standing with God.

I am far from oppression because I do not fear. The reason I do not fear is because I am grounded in God’s word. I know He is taking care of me.

The devil comes to kill, steal and destroy in our lives but he can’t hurt us if we refuse to fear him.

Terror (destruction, ruin, dismay or object of terror) will not come near me. That would include tornadoes, cancer and other destructive diseases, car wrecks, house fires, terrorist attacks etc.

Grab a hold of this verse and believe it. Get established in righteousness and believe God to keep you and your household safe.

I Did Not Pray In That Nanosecond
By Sherrie Coronas

I saw the back of the blue 4×4 truck lift slightly as its breaks were suddenly called into action by some unexpected circumstance. I pressed down on my clutch and break pedals with every ounce of strength I could muster. I believed the effort would be successful. Soon, however, it became clear that impact was inevitable. I remember uttering, “Oh no, oh no,” as the truck’s tailgate and glaring red brake lights drew closer and closer. “Why is the car not stopping?” I screamed in my mind. Out of the side of my eye I saw my 15-year-old son brace himself in the front passenger seat. Then with nothing left to do, I closed my eyes and got ready to slam hard into the back of that truck.

My mind and body prepared for what would come next — pain. But there was no pain, no jerking forward, no glass flying through the air, no air bag punch in the face. Instead, there was softness, like feathers in a pillow that swallowed up my whole body. I didn’t feel an impact and figured we must have somehow stopped before we hit the truck. “It must be God’s divine intervention,” I thought. With my heart pounding, I opened my eyes to look at my son, Ian. I have never been as relieved as I was to see him sitting there unscathed, looking absolutely, perfectly intact. He was looking directly at me as well. Praise God! Then I redirected my eyes toward the front of the car to see how close we came to a collision.

That’s when I first comprehended the miracle. You see, the hood of my car was smashed nearly to the windshield, folded neatly into the air to make a tent over the engine. The tailgate of the truck was in my engine about half way back. The truck had literally fastened itself to the engine of my car. Parts of my car were scattered here and there on the road. It looked really bad from where we sat. By the look on the faces of those in the cars around us, I knew it looked even worse from out there.

“I screwed up, Ian, I’m so sorry…are you ok?” I asked slowly. “Yes,” he calmly replied. “Are you sure?” I asked again. He was sure. “Ian, did you feel the crash?” I asked. “Na-a,” he replied. “Me neither,” I said. “It’s really strange but it felt soft to me, like an Angel was on my lap,” I explained. “Me, too,” he answered with nonchalant belief. That was the moment we recognized the Angelic protection that had swooped into our very car. Two angels wedged themselves between our fragile bodies and the hard dashboard and windshield to create the most perfect protective cushion.

Staring at each other in total relief and belief, we began to pray. First, to thank God for his amazing protection, then for the safety of the people in the truck we hit (they were fine!) and finally for His continuing protection as we sat in the middle of three lanes of heavy morning rush-hour traffic. I picked up my cell phone and called 9-1-1.

The next day, we did not suffer from a single ache or pain. No whiplash, no headache. A week later the insurance company declared my car a total loss and soon after came a check in the amount they determined to be fair and reasonable for my mangled vehicle.

Looking back on the sequence of events, I once wondered if God was disappointed that I did not call out to Him before we hit the truck. You see, I didn’t pray in that nanosecond but He sent His Angels to protect us anyway. After some reflection, I now believe that I didn’t have to pray at that moment because God already had his loving eyes on us. He had heard our daily prayers for protection for many years and those prayers never expired. They were safely deposited with the ultimate insurance provider of the universe and the comprehensive coverage was already paid in full by Jesus Christ. As we continue to face all the world has to offer, we are forever grateful that our insurance policy remains in effect each and every day because the end of our time on earth may also come in a nanosecond.

By Donna L. Watkins

Have you ever read Psalm 91, or many others, and asked the question, “God, why isn’t this happening in my life?” “Why are You not doing this for me?” “Where are Your promises being fulfilled in my day to day living?”

I have loved the words and promises of Psalm 91. In the Spring of 2000, when we had lightning strike under the eaves of our house and start a fire in the attic, blowing out the telephones at the same time, I ran around trying to grab things to take out of the house. After two trips, I realized it was futile. Randal was in the attic using a fire extinguisher to get the flames off the roof enough so he could run to a neighbor to call 911, hoping that the whole neighborhood hadn’t been wiped out of phone service.

Having had asthma for many years, I couldn’t even get to the top of the pull-down stairs to help without choking. Being a “take charge” kind of person, I felt totally useless and after those two trips, I realized that this was a situation that was way beyond my power. I thought of Psalm 91 but in the fear of the situation, I could not remember a line of it.

I went to the bookcase to take off the nearest Bible in the house and turned to Psalm 91, sat down on the floor and read it out loud in Faith. Randal came in after running to several houses till he found a phone, and went back into the attic to use the fire extinguisher again which seemed to be bottomless. The firemen came and did their thing and offered Randal a job. They couldn’t go into the attic without their oxygen masks and Randal had been up there the whole time without anything at all.

The circumstances and events of that day created many incredible thoughts about how things turned out and what could have happened … but didn’t. They had told us that normally that kind of a fire would be totally out of control in 15-20 minutes. We had heard the crack like it had hit the house but had heard those sounds before with lightning hitting the trees in our woods, so even though Randal kept saying he smelled smoke, I kept saying I smelled nothing…..until 15 minutes later when it came through the vent nearby.

I ran for the fire extinguisher, which we happened to have brought home from the retail store, and Randal pulled down the stairs to the attic and took it up there. The flames were to the roof and the distance from the floored area of the attic was too far for the range of the spray …. but it reached there anyway.

The most amazing thing? The insurance company told us they had a method to “bomb” the attic to take out all of the smoke smell from everything stored up there. It was a chemical and we did not feel good about it, so we took a couple of boxes down to see how bad it was.

There was no smell of smoke! I instantly thought of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego coming out of the fire with “no smell of fire on them.”

Since then I have memorized Psalm 91 and kept it nearby on index cards and marked in my Bible, but time fades memories and there have been many times when I’ve read that and said, “Why isn’t this working for us now? Life seems to be falling apart … where are You?”

God is where He always is. Waiting to help when we’re ready to move His hand in Faith and Belief. There’s often an “if you” clause in the promises and I think that’s where we really miss it. We have our part of the sanctification contract, and we tend to not notice our part, while we complain that God is not keeping His Word.

If the Word isn’t working …. it’s because we haven’t punched in the access code. Don’t let the devil whisper in your ear lies about our Heavenly Father. Believe the Word and make His Truth happen in your life. Find out what you’re not doing. Even if somebody transfers a million dollars into your checking account, you are going to have to write a check to get it out. Move forward! Find out where you’re “dropping the ball” and get back in the winners’ circle.
