How to Worship: Practical Ways to Praise God
Praising God is essential to your success as a Christian but many people do not know how to praise God-they need some practical information.
First you need to be convinced that praising God is a good thing and be determined to establish a lifestyle of praise. In other words, you will do it as faithfully as you brush your teeth or eat 3 meals a day. It needs to become a habit.
Some days you may worship Him 5 minutes as you are washing dishes, other days you may spend an hour praising Him in the privacy of your bedroom. The important thing is your attitude-you need to praise Him with all your heart.
Many times you may not feel like worshipping Him. You can stir yourself up by reading a good book on praising God, listening to some good praise music or thanking Him for any of the hundreds of blessings that He has bestowed on you-a place to live, your health, your family etc.
There are countless ways to spend time in praise and worship. The important thing is to give Him heartfelt praise-don’t just go through the motions. You can walk, kneel, sit stand or bow before Him-the choice is yours. Here are some ways to get you started:
- Go through the Psalms and find scriptures that praise God and read them out loud.
- Praise and thank Him for every thing He has done-in your life, in your church, in your family. Thank Him for the promises in His Word.
- Worship Him by saying “I worship you because You are…( awesome, glorious, incredible, wonderful, perfect etc.”)
- Make up a praise song and sing about how good and wonderful He is (Isaiah 42:10). It does not matter how it sounds. If you sing it from your heart, it will please your heavenly Father.
- Give Him praise with your physical posture. Lifting your hands (Psalms 63:4), kneeling or bowing are all a form of worship.
