An Organized Home: 6 Benefits to Getting Rid of Clutter

October 4th, 2008 by Lorene Troyer

An organized home will give you much more than neat surroundings. After I had my 2 children, a cluttered home was the norm for many years. Keeping my house organized seemed like far too much work. Finally one day when it got to the point where the clutter seemed unbearable, I decided something needed to be done. I made a deal with myself that I would keep my house organized for 21 days and if I was not happy with the results, I would go back to the way it was.

The first day was very discouraging and had I not made a commitment to myself, I would have given up. The next day was much easier, in fact I was amazed to find that keeping my house free of clutter was not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Here are some of the benefits of living in a clutter-free home.

  1. You will have more energy and a better outlook on life. Living in a disorderly home increases your stress level, saps your strength and taints your attitude towards life.
  2. Getting rid of clutter will have positive effects on your confidence levels, your relationships, and your professional life.
  3. You will have more time and be more productive because you won’t have to spend hours looking for things–everything will have it’s own place. It will be easier for you to stay focused on your duties.
  4. It will be easier to clean your house. You will not have to spend an hour picking stuff up before you start cleaning.
  5. You won’t panic when someone comes to visit unannounced. You will be able to focus on them instead of wondering what they think about the pile of clothes and toys lying in the corner.
  6. You will be able to take advantage of opportunities that come your way such as an invitation to go shopping with your girlfriend or to go out and eat with your husband.  You will not feel the pressing need to stay home and clean.

Taking the time to learn how to have an organized home is well worth the effort. You will gain so much and it may not be as hard as you think. I challenge you to learn how to get rid of clutter and enjoy a better quality of life.
